An LC I chairperson aspirant in Mityana Municipality has been nominated to contest in the upcoming village elections despite still recovering from injuries sustained in a road accident.
Emmanuel Sakoosi was officially nominated on Monday to contest for the position of LC I Chairperson of Busimbi Kasimbi Village in Busimbi Division after being transported from Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment following the crash that nearly claimed his life.
Sakoosi had expressed interest in the race before the accident. The LC I elections are scheduled for July 28.
Speaking shortly after his nomination at the Busimbi Division headquarters, Sakoosi thanked God for preserving his life and reassured his supporters that his recovery was progressing well.
“I thank God for giving me another chance at life. Although I am still recovering, my spirit remains strong. I ask my supporters to remain calm and continue supporting me because I believe we shall achieve victory together,” Sakoosi said.
He said he remains committed to serving residents of Busimbi Kasimbi and pledged to fulfil his leadership responsibilities if elected.
Former Busimbi Division Speaker Nuuhu Kalamwa welcomed Sakoosi’s nomination, describing it as a demonstration of resilience and commitment to public service.
“We are grateful to God that Emmanuel survived the accident and has been able to return for nomination. He is hardworking, committed and dedicated to serving the community. Those are the qualities that make him deserving of the people’s support,” Kalamwa said.
Supporters who gathered at the nomination venue expressed excitement after seeing their candidate despite his condition, saying his determination had strengthened their confidence in him.
“Seeing him here today has given us hope. Even though he is still recovering, we are confident in his leadership, and we shall stand with him throughout the campaign until election day,” one supporter said.
Sakoosi’s nomination marks the start of his official campaign for the Busimbi Kasimbi LC I chairmanship as he continues recovering from injuries sustained in the road crash.
Residents are now waiting for the July 28 village elections, where Sakoosi hopes to turn the support and goodwill from residents into victory at the polls.
